Don Warnakulasuriya Obituary, Death – When he died away this morning, May 16, 2023, he was 90 years old and the Eldest of the Oblate Province of Colombo. He was living his eve of life at Marian Grove, Kohuwala, when he reached the end of his journey through life. Oblate Missionary Institute (OMI) was an organization that the Reverend Father Don George Warnakulasuriya, OMI belonged to. We are sorry to be the ones to break this news to you, and we extend our condolences to you and your family in this difficult time.
During the 58 years that he has served as a priest in the Archdiocese, he has worked in the parishes of Grand Street, Negombo, Wellawaththa, Mutuwal, Halpe, and Katunayeka. In addition, he has served as an employee in the parishes of Manalthivu, Kalpitiya, Chilaw, and Kattakaduwa, all of which are located within the Chilaw diocese. A total of 58 years have been spent with him doing the duties of a priest. However, the burial of his mortal bones will not take place until tomorrow, May 17, 2023, in the late afternoon at De Mazenod House, which is located at Colombo 15, and it will not take place any earlier than tomorrow. The event is set to take place today, May 16, at 5:00 p.m., and his deceased remains will be carried there afterward. After that, at 1:30 in the afternoon, it will be transferred to the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, which is located at Colombo 10, where it will remain until the end of the ceremony.
Tomorrow, May 17th, 2023, at three o’clock in the afternoon, the funeral service will begin, and immediately afterward, the body will be laid to rest at the Borella General Cemetery. I would want to invite you to join me in praying that God would allow Father George to enter His presence in heaven and that the peace that had been taken from his spirit would be returned to him.
