Billy Masetlha Obituary, Death – Ambassador Masetlha’s passing, The South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) is in a state of deep regret as a direct result of His Excellency Billy Masetlha’s resignation from his position as South Africa’s ambassador to the Republic of Algeria. Masetlha served in this capacity for the past two years. Ambassador Masetlha passed away on May 14, 2023, after a heroic battle against disease that lasted for a large amount of time and finally came to an end on that day.
Ambassador Masetlha has a long history of serving the public, and throughout that time she has held a variety of jobs within the government, one of which was that of Director General of the National Intelligence Agency. She has been in this line of work for a very long period. In addition to this, Ambassador Masetlha was an active participant in the fight against apartheid during his time as a member of the anti-apartheid movement Umkhonto We Sizwe and throughout his time as a member of the organization. At the moment, he is working in the role of Ambassador for the Republic of South Africa to the United States of America.
Masetlha was driven into exile against his will and spent the subsequent years residing in a number of countries, including Botswana and Zambia, amongst others. During this time, he was an active participant in the struggle to oppose the apartheid regime, and he worked in concert with youth and student organizations to achieve this goal. During this time, he was also a student. According to Minister Naledi Pandor, South Africa has experienced the loss of a person who was an informed advocate of the values and ambitions of pan-Africanism, someone who was trusted, and someone who fought passionately for those ideas and goals.
In addition, Minister Pandor says that this individual was someone who fought with passion for those ideas and aims. After the passing of Mr., Minister Pandor made the following statement to the press. After learning of Ambassador Masetlha’s passing, Minister Pandor offered his most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late diplomat. He went on to express his sorrow by adding, “We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ambassador Masetlha,” and then he proceeded by saying, “We will miss him.”
